April 2015 Senior Saint

Senior Saints; Sister Rosetta Bonds.

She was born in Bessemer Alabama.  With two other siblings, she was baptized at the age of 13 while living in California.  She moved to El Paso in 1953 and attended Douglass High School.  Her class was the last segregated class in El Paso to graduate as such.  She joined Shiloh in 1953 then under the leadership of Rev. Henry, followed by Rev. Humphrey, and now Rev. Brown.  She was a member of the choir and President of the Young Adult Choir.  She met her husband at Shiloh.  She was married for 46 years to the late Rev. Bobby Bonds and they had 4 children.  Her husband was the Pastor of Valley Grove Baptist Church in Valdo New Mexico from 1962 to 2001.  She started singing at their Church because they did not have a choir.  She was the soloist at their church and her children eventually joined her in singing.  It will be 14 years that Rev. Bonds was called to be with his Lord and Savior.

Sister Bonds loves to attend Bible study.  Her favorite hobby is crocheting.  Sister Bonds loves children and enjoys being with them as well as nurturing them.  She has been blessed with 8 grandchildren, an additional 5 that she considers as grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren, and an additional 9 that she considers great, great grandchildren.

Sister Bonds is very active, friendly and independent.  She also encourages and spends time with other senior saints.  I joke with her about road trips to Alamogordo to visit her family.  If anyone has driven there it is a long trip and not much to see.  So I told her I need her to call her to take me there when I have to go there for work.

Her favorite scriptures are Psalms 27 and Isaiah 40.

She enjoys singing and has had the opportunity to sing with her Daughter and Son at times at Shiloh.  Her kids are a great support to her.  She knows the spirit of the Lord keeps her going.  She said the she never would have made it without him.
