The Reverend, Dr. Ponce L. Brown, D. Min.

Born to the family of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Brown of Henderson, North Carolina, Dr. Brown was the third of four children. Dr. Brown and his family held active membership in the Shiloh Baptist Church of the city. Dr. Brown has also attended Washington Bible College of Lanham, Maryland where he engaged in studies relating to Pastoral Ministry, Christian Evangelism, and Scripture Interpretation. Pastor Brown’s desire for preparation for ministry led him to study at Wesley Theological Seminary of Washington, D.C. On December 31, 2000. The American International Theological Institute and Seminary conferred upon Dr. Brown an honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree. He became a graduate of the University of the District of Columbia receiving a Bachelors of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1995. Shortly after his graduation Dr. Brown pursued study for and received his Masters Degree in Education from Regent University of Virginia Beach, Virginia. After much study, Pastor Brown graduated with his Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary of Dayton, Ohio in December 2005. His was a dual focus, Christian Education and Urban Ministries. Dr. Brown’s project dissertation is entitled Equipping the Saints for the Work of the Ministry. It was published UMI Dissertation Services of Ann Arbor, Michigan in October 2006.


Dr. Brown was licensed to preach by the Friendship Baptist Church of El Paso, Texas in 1983. His involvement in street evangelism ministry to the homeless and support for the chemically dependent moved the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of El Paso, Texas to ordain him1985. Since that time the Lord has blessed him to be used in various ministry opportunities. He has served as Site Coordinator for the Church Association for Community Services and as the Executive Director of the Allen Community Outreach Center both of Washington, D.C. Dr. Brown has taught school on the elementary, middle school and at the college level. Dr. Brown has served as a member of the board of Directors of the Y.M.C.A. in El Paso. He has served as the Moderator of the El Paso Baptist Association, president, chaplain and treasurer of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of El Paso, Texas.
Presently, Dr. Brown serves as Pastor/Teacher of the Shiloh Baptist Church of El Paso, Texas, a growing, vivacious congregation which loves the Lord. Hearing the call of God to make a difference in the 98% Hispanic community surrounding Shiloh, Dr. Brown was moved to establish a Spanish speaking worship service. He serves as the Chairman of the Executive Leadership Team of the El Paso Baptist Association and Christian Education coordinator for the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance. Dr. Brown is an Adjunct Professor at the Howard Payne (Baptist) University of El Paso, Texas campus and Park University, Ft. Bliss, Texas. Pastor Brown is active in the National Baptist Convention of America, the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He is also an advocate for community development and empowerment affiliated with the Christian Community Development Association. Pastor Brown has been privileged to teach in a myriad of workshops and conferences around the country on various topics relating to the Christian Education Ministry in the local church as well as on the topic of world religions. He has also been called upon to provide spiritual leadership and counsel for struggling congregations. He has served as revivalist whenever he is requested.


Pastor Brown is the dedicated husband of Mrs. Joyce M. Brown who is nothing short of a blessing in his life. Mrs. Brown is a lifelong educator in the area of Special Education. They have been married for thirty-three years and are the proud parents of four children. They are also the proud, new grandparents of little Miss Kyndall Marie Brown, born April 11, 2011. Their only aspiration in life is to lift up the name of Jesus so that the world might experience the Lord’s salvation, presence and power. Pastor Brown’s prayer for all is:
